This week, it’s time for action 🔥 with the leaders of the Cameroonian NGO Tropical Forest and Rural Development, TF-RD, partner of Up2green since 2022.
Meet in Ebodjé, on the edge of the Manyange na Elombo-Campo Marine National Park: sea turtles, humpback whales 🐳, dolphins 🐬, … The village is located 30 km from Campo Ma’an National Park: gorillas, elephants 🐘, giant pangolins… Ideal place to raise awareness about environmental preservation!
The principle of these projects is to safeguard these endangered animal species through the establishment, alongside awareness-raising actions, of agroforestry sectors offering alternative income to that of poaching.
TF-RD operates in the two elementary schools and the Ebodjé middle school: 30 one-hour sessions in each establishment. All the children from the school gather in the same room, intrigued and curious to discover this training.
The host starts with a story about gorillas 🦍, inspired by a book distributed to everyone. Then he goes on to talk about the importance of knowing biodiversity 🌱, of becoming experts in it, of loving it and protecting it. Children receive a coloring book, with congratulations to the 4 best colorists. The oldest respond to a questionnaire, a basis for discussion.
TF-RD brings them together another day on the 🌴 beach 🦀, for an environmental talk. Next collective action: cleaning of beach edges, proposed by the President of the Ebodjé environmental club.
170 young people are in training. Congratulations 👏 to the entire TF-RD team, the teachers and school directors as well as the mothers present for this collective action.
See you next week, still in Ebodjé, with the dynamic women of the village!
