ECODEC BENIN, created in 2016, has been a partner of Up2green since 2017.
The NGO intervenes in the North in 3 municipalities (Tanguiéta, Matéri, Cobly), as close as possible to the advance of the Sahel. In the South, it operates in Zogbodomey, in the Hlanzoun swamp forest, rich in biodiversity. The two sites are 500 km apart, an 8-hour drive. The main targets are women, youth, farmers and children.
In these 2 zones and as part of the partnership with Up2green, ECODEC BENIN reconciles local development and environmental conservation by carrying out several activities at the same time:
- Education about the environment and biodiversity: The beneficiaries are made aware of environmental issues, biodiversity and the factors of degradation of various ecosystems;
- Support for the development of income-generating activities
Formation of young people, equipment, and support for micro-nursery growers in the North and South, and permaculture market gardeners in the North;
Productionof organic vegetables and forest plants in ECODEC BENIN farm schools and forest plants in micro-nurseries;
- Reforestation and agroforestry in the North and South
Training and monitoring of planters and beneficiaries of trees adapted to the environments;
Degraded ecosystems are restored and those in good condition are safeguarded;
Safeguarding and protection of animal and plant species.
Alphonse Neka, director of the NGO, is surrounded by a competent, dynamic and admirably established team in the field.
