For the success of agroforestry and reforestation projects, nursery growers play a key role. Trained in the 2 regions of intervention, they allow the plants to be supplied as close as possible to the planting areas of ECODEC, our Beninese partner presented in the post 1/4. They also provide other plants for
sell to individuals.
In total they are:
– 7 nurserymen trained in the North who produced more than 8,500 plants in 2021. The other plants were produced in the joint nursery between the NGOs ECODEC and Humy.
Example of species for agroforestry areas: Gemlina arborea, Anacardiumouest, Mangifera indica.
– 5 nursery growers trained in the South who produced more than 20,000 plants in 2023.
Example of species for the restoration of the Hlanzoum forest: Alstonia congensis, Cola gigantea; for agroforestry areas: Tectona grandis, Gmelina arborea.
